A neighbor of 35 years objected, saying the household parks seven vehicles including work vans he believes are illegally plated, and that approving the variance would make the area look commercial and drop property values.

The project's architect explained the variance is only about parking location, not quantity, and that the design means less paving and protects a mature tree the family feeds birds in.

The applicant said all the vehicles are personal, not commercial, and that extra cars belong to visiting family members who leave at the end of the day.
